img_2087(Nassau, The Bahamas)  October 7th, 2016. BTC has announced that it will issue a $5 mobile credit to all customers in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. The mobile credit is to help families stay in contact with their loved-ones following the storm.
The credit will be applicable for both postpaid and prepaid customers. A $5 credit will be placed on postpaid accounts and BTC will begin crediting all mobile accounts today with the credit taking effect Saturday, October 8th, 2016.
Generally, BTC managed to maintain above average service levels through-out the storm and the primary highlight was that all of our FLOW TV customers never lost service! They were able to watch local updates via ZNS throughout the storm and maintained communications with the capital.
BTC can report that restoration efforts already began in the South East Islands and the following Retail Stores are open as of 9:30 AM, October 7th, 2016, for normal operations: Matthew Town, Inagua; Spring Point, Acklins; Cabbage Hill; Crooked Island; Deadman’s Cay, Long Island; New Bight, Cat Island; and, Governor’s Harbour Eleuthera. The Retail Stores in Exuma are also opened until 2PM today.
In the areas that were most impacted, namely, New Providence and Grand Bahama, the resident BTC Teams were dispatched immediately following the “all clear” to conduct assessments and restorations. Basic communications are in place in most of the Family Islands. Additionally, BTC has already identified teams for assessments and restoration in the impacted islands and with the opening of the airports on Saturday, October 8, 2016, those teams will travel to conduct assessments and complete repairs.
