(Nassau, Bahamas) The islandwide power outage suffered in Nassau at 7:15 am this morning, according to a release from the Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC), was as a result of a major underground Cable located at the Blue Hills Power Station faulting, and tripping all generators off-line in New Providence.

In the release BEC apologised for the inconvenience caused to its customers, stating:

“The restoration process began immediately. However, due to additional safety concerns as a result of the generator cable fault, the electricity supply to the first set of customers was restored at 8:10am”.

By midday the Corporation said it expected that all supplies would be restored.
