The 2nd Annual Walter Bethel Basketball Invitational Tournament hosted by the Central Eleuthera High School (CEHS), wrapped up on Saturday evening, November 17th, 2012, with visitors, D.W. Davis and Agape Christian School taking home the top trophies in the Junior and Senior Divisions respectively.
A total of sixteen (16) teams battled it out on the sea-side court over the three days of competition, with eight teams in both divisions.
In the Junior division the teams were: Deep Creek Middle School (DCMS), Windermere High School (WHS), Preston H. Albury High School (PHAHS), Harbour Island All Age School (HIAAS), Central Eleuthera High School (CEHS), D. W. Davis High School out of New Providence, Agape Christian School from Abaco, and L. N. Coakley High School out of Exuma.
It was an exciting few days of competition with crowds building as the contests heated up. It all culminated on Saturday evening, with a slight threat of rain with clouds overhead and a nice cool breeze blowing across Governor’s Harbour.
For the Juniors’ championship, Harbour Island All Age School came up against D. W. Davis High School out of New Providence, and fell victim to the visiting school, 29 points to 22.

In the Senior Division, Agape Christian School out of Abaco faced tournament host, Central Eleuthera High School, and again the local team was denied the grand celebration, losing the close contest, by four points – 44 to 40.

The tournament winners received their trophies and medals at a Saturday night ceremony with other important awards also dispersed.
Tournament MVP’s were Tray Davis of Harbour Island (Junior) and Shayne Thompson of CEHS (Senior).
Most rebounds – Robyn Ferguson of L. N. Coakley (Senior) and Lance Pelecanos of DCMS (Junior).
Most steals went to Algernon McCardy of CEHS (Senior) and Quinton Charlton of CEHS (Junior).
Most assists titles were taken by Godfrey Rolle of Agape Christian (Senior) and Quinton Charlton of CEHS (Junior).
Most blocks titles went to Ashton Forbes of Agape Christian (Senior) and Celoui Louissant of CEHS (Junior);
and best sportsmanship awards were presented to Machario McDonald and Tevin Dean.
The most outstanding juniors in the tournament were recognized in an all star tournament team line-up including, Quinton Charlton (CEHS), Kirklyn Delveaux (L. N. Coakley), Trae Bain (Agape), Sario Symonette (Preston), Lance Pelecanos (DCMS), Sean Dorelus (CEHS), Tray Davis (Harbour Island), Lander Albury (D. W. Davis), Michael Sweeting (D. W. Davis), Keanu Rolle (D. W. Davis), Rodrick Pinder (CEHS) and Celoui Louissant (CEHS).
The most outstanding seniors recognized as all stars were, Lathario Wallace (NEHS), Wayde Anderson (Preston), Justin Laing (L. N. Coakley), Keith Smith (CEHS), Rio Saunders (Harbour Island), Jetro Beauchamp (Harbour Island), Godfey Rolle (Agape), Agassi Saunders (Agape), Jaron Cornish (Agape), Shayne Thompson (CEHS), Val Sands (CEHS), and Algernon McCardy (CEHS).
Key organizer and physical education teacher with CEHS, Mr. Sherwin Major, commented that a number of the visiting schools had already added next year’s tournament to their calendars, and would be welcomed on island once again in 2013.
