About the tour

Our five-hour journey begins in the centre of historic Governor’s Harbour, Central Eleuthera and will take us down south (or “up” south depending on who you ask), to the settlement of Wemyss Bight, before making our way back. In Governor’s Harbour, we’ll begin at the Administrator’s complex and then make our way pass St. Patrick’s Anglican Church, The Haynes Library and then around Cupid’s Cay. Your local tour guide will provide you with commentary about the island’s roots, telling you about the arrival of the Eleutheran Adventurers, and how Eleuthera got its name.

Making our way from Governor’s Harbour, you’ll get to learn more about Eleuthera and The Bahamas. Your guide will even give you a lesson on how to speak Bahamian! We want to be sure that after this experience, you’ll be a true-true Bahamian.

When we get to Savannah Sound, you’ll meet “Mavis Emily” who will introduce you to local handicraft work, as she tells you about how to plait straw. You won’t be able to resist having one of her one of a kind handbags, necklaces or earrings as an Eleuthera souvenir. We’ll tell you about “the Royal Baker” who also lives here. We know that you’ll be back for some of “the Prince’s Loaf” before the end of your Eleuthera vacation.

Idyllic Tarpum Bay, the island’s fishing village, marks our entry into South Eleuthera. Who knows, maybe we’ll be in time to watch the fishermen bringing in the catch of the day. In Rock Sound, the heart of the south, we’ll stop off at Pascal’s at Four Points for refreshments, before making our way to another one of nature’s wonders, The Rock Sound Ocean Hole, fabled to be a bottomless blue hole, visited by Jacques Cousteau. And then, on to Coco Plums, a roadside eatery and watering hole, where you’ll meet another one of the island’s personalities, “Coco”, who will show you why we love the conch so much. You’ll watch as Coco demonstrates how to get the conch out of its shell (it’s not as easy as you think!), and then mix it up into the Bahamian version of sushi. We know this will not be your only visit to Coco Plums.

All roads…but wait, there’s only one main road, and it leads to Wemyss Bight. Come see where our children learn and play. Our visit will be to Wemyss Bight Primary School. This is an experience not soon to be forgotten. Join the kids in a song, dance or game of “ring play”. This is Eleuthera like you would not get to see it any other way.

It’s time now to begin making our way back. But not before making another stop to Pascal’s at Four Points for a delicious Bahamian lunch. Then, after lunch, we’ll take you to the largest shopping complex on the island, where you’ll get an opportunity to visit The Market Supermarket to pick up any essentials. And then, it’s back on the bus and back to Governor’s Harbour.

We’ve now shown you some of our island, from our perspective. Now, you get to retrace your steps as your own tour guide, and uncover more of Eleuthera’s hidden gems. We’ll see you on Queen’s Highway, driving your SD!
