The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institution (BTVI) is offering an amazing opportunity to persons within the entire Eleuthera community. On November 2nd, the institution will begin a 20 week General Maintenance Certificate program, which will be offered in 4 – 5 week modules, covering Carpentry, Electrical Installation, Plumbling, and Tiling.
The program will be offered simultaneously in three different locations on island, in an attempt to reach as wide a cross-section of the population as possible, using high school campuses in Rock Sound, Palmetto Point and Lower Bogue for the classes, which will be held on Fridays at 6pm to 10pm, and on Saturdays at 9am to 3pm. The most exciting thing about this offer is the cost, which is completely FREE to all interested persons. Each location will host 2 classes per session of 20 students maximum. This will allow up to 40 persons in each area to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.
Head of the Construction and Trade Department at BTVI, Mr. Graham Thornley, visited with Administrator Symonette in Governor’s Harbour in early October, to promote the upcoming program. Mr. Thornley highlighted that the program is ideal for students out of school who want to learn an in demand trade, persons in construction who desire to polish their skills and receive certification of their qualifications, or persons who want to learn new skills, at any age. He also emphasized that persons must complete all four of the course modules to receive certification. Mr. Thornley was accompanied by Mrs. Deborah Pearle, Secretary to the Dean of Construction and Trade.
Interested persons can register at the nearest Administrator’s office or at any of the three course campuses, including the North Eleuthera High School, Central Eleuthera High School, or at Preston H. Albury High School. Space is available on a first come, first served basis.
