The airline was started in 2006 and bought by current president, Captain Butler, in 2008. Mr. Butler explained that, the company grew from servicing 50,000 to 60,000 passengers per year in 2008 and under $5 million revenue to taking in $16-17 million in revenue and more than 320,000 passengers serviced in 2011.
The airline is also looking at the possibility of adding San Salvador and Bimini to their roster once again in the near future.
While outlining the successes of his airline, the CEO also commented on the challenge of planning strategically for the future of the airline, with what he described as the current lack of a national development plan, beyond five years – the election cycle.
Skybahamas also promises very attractive rates for the Eleuthera route, which the airline plans to service with a 33 seater, inclusive of a cabin attendant, and Sky Bahamas’ legendary service. Captain Butler also announced that the airline would be hiring up to five persons in Eleuthera to support the destination. He added, “We work hard. I’ve got the greatest team there is, and it’s basically the team that’s doing it.”
