A New Beginning…

The Class of 2016 of Central Eleuthera High School, celebrated ‘A New Beginning’ during their commencement ceremony held on Friday, June 10th, at the Wesley Methodist Church in James’ Cistern, and was the largest graduating class on the island with 49 students moving on to the next phase in their life careers. Three students distinguished themselves by graduating with cumulative honour roll grade point averages; Safyha Bryan (Valedictorian – with cumulative grade point average of 3.97 and a final term grade of 4.0), Joevante Fox (Salutatorian – cumulative Principal’s List honours), and Cortez Cooper.

Safyha Bryan as Valedictorian was this year’s top academic graduate on the island of Eleuthera. She also earned 8 BGCSE subjects, achieved in Grade 11, with another 6 pending this summer. As a well-rounded student, Safyha was also awarded by the Eleuthera Schools Sports Association as the Most Outstanding Senior Athlete for 2016. Principal of Central Eleuthera High School, Mrs. Marie Galanis, commented that it had been some time since the school had seen students at the level of Safyha and Joevante, and made an extraordinary effort this year to award them with gifts that could help to propel them into their university careers, through donors. In addition to the customary trophies and certificates, Joevante also received a laptop computer (corporate donor), as well as a $500 cash award (donated by Mr. and Mrs. Burke Stinson), and Safyha received an iPadAir (multiple donors), as well as a $500 cash award (donated by Mr. and Mrs. Burke Stinson).
