• BTC’s Command Center remains open at its National Network Operations Center and is beginning its assessment and restoration efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Joaquin.
  • We’re happy to report that this time, our staff and personnel have not been injured which is of paramount importance to us.
  • We remain in contact with our teams throughout the Family Islands and we’re receiving updates also on the status of our equipment.
  • To date we are able to report on the following islands and planned restoration efforts:

ABACO: We received reports that our MPLS network was affected due to sea fibre that was damaged during the storm surge.  As a result, fixed and internet services in the Southern Abaco were down.  We can now report that teams have completed the restoration efforts and the services in Southern Abaco are back on-line.

ELEUTHERA,ANDROS, BERRY ISLAND & BIMINI: We’re pleased to report that the networks are operational and BTC services are up and running.

CAT ISLAND: Our team has reported that there is a pole down in Port Howe and our cell tower at Devil’s point was lost due to commercial power failure.  We have organized a reconnaissance team in conjunction with BEC and the restoration efforts are underway to restore the services today for customers at Devil’s Point.

ACKLINS & CROOKED ISLAND: These islands are mission critical for BTC as we have towers in Landre Point, CI down, ARCOS/Columbus network failure in Crooked Island; and we have structural damage to the main exchange in Acklins which is impacting communications to the island.  Our teams have been assembled and scheduled to fly out to those islands as early as Sunday morning.

LONG ISLAND: This island is a priority for BTC.  The Clarence Town and Hamilton’s Tower has been destroyed, impacting mobile services. At our exchange in Deadman’s Cay our  CALIX equipment has been destroyed due flooding.  This impacts fixed and internet services.  We are working to dispatch a team within the day to conduct an assessment and prepare a response and repair plan.

INAGUA & MAYAGUANA: Though our equipment is operational.  Communication out and into the island is impacted by the equipment failure in Long Island.
