The Department of Immigration takes note of the photographs published in today’s Tribune, (5, 2013)

We wish to say, that we are unable to authenticate same. It is to be noted, that we take very seriously, our mandate to  uphold the integrity of our institutions.

The Detention Centre, as a place used for the custody of  persons awaiting repatriation/deportation to their homeland,  or place of ordinary residence, is subject to the same security protocols of similar institutions throughout the  world.

The release of photographs, purporting to represent any  area of the internal infrastructure of the Detention Centre,   is  a breach of security.

As with any breach of the security of the Detention Centre,  this matter will also be investigated.
