(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – Shortly before 4pm on Thursday, February 11th, 2016, another group of people, undocumented Haitian nationals  – 7 males and 3 females were transported to New Providence via Pineapple Air charter to the Detention Center for further processing.   In a joint operation, Immigration and Police officers on Wednesday, February 10th and Thursday, February 11th scoured the island from Rock Sound north to the Blackwood area, resulting in the ten (10) illegal immigrants taken into custody.

Chief Immigration Officer, Shema Darling and her team, in partnership with the Royal Bahamas Police Force, continue to apply pressure on the numbers of illegal immigrants flowing into the island.

In an update on the three female Jamaican illegal immigrants taken into custody in Eleuthera for overstaying their allowed visit time in the country on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016.  Two of the females have since been deported, and the third female who had overstayed by eight months was fined $850 or two years in prison. She reportedly paid the fine and awaits deportation.  The total number of illegal immigrants in Eleuthera taken into custody to date in 2016 now stands at approximately 38 people.
