(Eleuthera, Bahamas) Officers from the Marine  Support Unit, of the Royal Bahamas Police Force in Eleuthera have located the wreckage of the Cessna Aircraft registration number N-310WL that crashed in waters off Eleuthera on Friday October 24th, 2014, claiming the life of its pilot, Mr. Coy Austin, a long-time, second home owner in a private community of Wykee Estates in Central Eleuthera.

The marine unit reported locating the wreckage on Thursday 30th October 2014 sometime around 1:47pm about one mile from James Cistern.

Police say investigations are continuing into the crash.

According to FlightAware tracker, Mr. Austin’s plane departed from Fort Pierce in Florida (KFPR) at about 7am on the Friday morning and officials in Eleuthera have confirmed that the plane approached Governor’s Harbour Airport (GHB) sometime around 8:30am and attempted to land, but encountered poor visibility and bad weather. The local Air Traffic Controllers reportedly directed him to the North Eleuthera Airport, however the control tower eventually lost communication with the aircraft some time later.

It is believed, that no search for the missing plane had been initiated prior to the body of its pilot washing up on a beach in James Cistern still strapped to a plane seat that afternoon sometime after 4pm.
