The charred remains of a 31 ft. Contender boat is all that was left after fire tore through the vessel, kept in a back yard, just off the main road in Palmetto Point. The reportedly uninsured fishing vessel, said to be valued at more than $50,000, and its engines went up in flames on Friday night, December 6th, 2013, shortly before 10 pm.  The vessel, according to a close relative of the owner, a businessman in the Palmetto Point community, shared that it was being used in a Stone Crab operation.  They further shared that the Police had been contacted following the incident, which is currently under active investigation.
