(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – A memorial service was held on Wednesday May 1st at 11am,  for eight year old Yasmin Hart, a grade 4 student at North Eleuthera Primary School. The moving service was organised by the school in memory of the child who passed away in hospital in New Providence on  April 20th, 2013, after a short and sudden illness.

At the service, Yasmin was lovingly remembered by her little classmates, her teacher Mrs. Gayle Colebrook, as well as the rest of the school body and staff. Her bereaved mother, Monique Sweeting of Upper Bogue, was surrounded by supporters and she received heartfelt condolences and prayers from attendees from throughout the  North Eleuthera community.

A capacity audience attended the memorial service held in The Bluff for little Yasmin Hart.

Yasmin was described by her mother, who said, “She was a joyful, happy, wonderful child, and she was a leader, she wasn’t a follower.”  Sharing one of her cherished memories of Yasmin and her plucky personality, Ms. Sweeting said, “She was always telling me when I was doing something wrong – ‘Mommy you need to apologize and you need to apologize now’ – and I would say – ‘Who is the kid?’”

According to her Mom, Yasmin fell ill, was diagnosed with tonsillitis, and taken to hospital in New Providence. A friend of the family said she underwent an operation,  but had not recovered and died about two and a half weeks later.

North Eleuthera Primary students, Alissa and Otia, serenade the audience in memory of their friend, Yasmin.
