Up to early Saturday morning, The Eleutheran had received information that Stroke victim, Mrs. Helena Smith of Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera, was still on island – having suffered a stroke during the storm on Thursday and the “all clear” been given on Friday afternoon. Pilots were on island on Friday, making several attempts to fly Mrs. Smith off island to receive care, with no success because of the very high winds still being experienced through the evening.
Local sources say that the pilots stayed overnight in Eleuthera on Friday, flying into Exuma on Saturday morning – because flights into New Providence were still not possible at that time with their small sized plane.
Mrs. Smith after being transported to the GH Clinic to await her flight on Friday, had to once again be taken back to the clinic in Hatchet Bay later in the day, because the clinic in Governor’s Harbour is not equipped with a generator.
Thankfully she left this morning on Pineapple air – approximately 10:20am, according to family members.
