Eleuthera’s Chris Brown finished 4th, just off the medal podium, in the Olympic 400m final held on Monday in London. The 34 year old Wemyss Bight native finished strong in a time of 44.79, but once again the individual olympic medal proved elusive.  The race was won by 19-year-old Grenadian, Kirani James, one of a field of competitors averaging 10 years younger than the experienced Brown. James’ tremendous victory on the world stage represented the first time that the “spice” isle, Grenada, has won an olympic medal.

Fellow Bahamian, Demetrius Pinder finished 7th overall in a time of 44.98, out done by the Belgian Borlee twin brothers.

For the Caribbean it was a successful night on the track with 1st, 2nd and  3rd in the 400m going to James of Grenada, Santos of the Dominican Republic and Gordon of Trinidad & Tobago.

In the 400m hurdles, gold went to veteran Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic and Bronze went to Javier Culson of Puerto Rico. The USA’s Michael Tinsley won silver. Surprisingly, the USA did not have any qualifiers in the 400m final.
