“We are a promise, We are a possibility” echoed from the inside of the government building on Cupid’s Cay in Governor’s Harbour from the many dozens of Eleuthera’s youths, gathered for the beginning of the 2012 Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) Camp on Monday, July 2, 2012.

The children came together with the local RBPF’s top brass and summer youth program volunteers to kick off the program at an official opening ceremony, sharing in song, prayer, creative presentations and words of inspiration from Rev. John Baldwin of the Bahamas Conference of the Methodist Church.

Nationally the RBPF’s Annual Summer Youth Program commenced its 19th year  on June 27th.

This year’s theme, ‘Empowering our youth for a brighter tomorrow’, fits snugly into Police Commissioner, Mr. Ellison Greenslade’s vision of having  a positive influence, as he was recently quoted, saying, “Nothing is more important than holding out hope to our young people and positively influencing them to make good choices for their futures and the future of the Bahamas.”

Children who attend are given the opportunity to participate in numerous activities, including a wide variety arts and crafts.  In Eleuthera the youth program takes place at four different locations with a police volunteer heading each of those.  In North Eleuthera, where the summer program is being held at the North Eleuthera High School, Sgt. 1871 Cash heads it up.  Sgt. 1674 Pinder is in charge in Central Eleuthera, at the Hatchet Pay Police Station complex.  South Eleuthera has both Sgt. 1773 Knowles and Corporal 260 Pyfrom , holding the reins at the Tarpum Bay Primary School, and Harbour Island has Corporal 234 Taylor holding down the summer camp fort at the Harbour Island All Age school.
