(Eleuthera, Bahamas) The Transit of Venus, a once in a lifetime celestial event, will be able to be seen from Eleuthera on June 5th, 2012, and will not occur for another 105 years, in 2117.

Dr. David Sands, owner of the new ‘Eco Tours Bahamas’, will be giving locals and visitors to Eleuthera and Exuma, the rare opportunity to be able to witness and enjoy the significance of this event at three different venues – at the Sandals Resort in Exuma and two locations in Eleuthera.  In Eleuthera, Sands will be hosting viewing events at the Rock House in Harbour Island, and at the Windermere High School (WHS) in Savannah Sound. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students under 18, and are available at the Haynes Library in Governor’s Harbour and at WHS.

The events, which run from 5pm to 9pm on Tuesday, the evening of the 5th, will include an audio/visual presentation of previous Venus Transit events, and the opportunity to directly view the current Transit using solarscope equipment, provided by Eco Tours Bahamas, as well as refreshments.

In Harbour Island, Dr. Sands aims to encompass nature and the beauty of nature together as one experience, he says, by bringing together a number of items of beauty in life at one time – with a live band performance, delicious buffet style dinner, as well as an art exhibition by renown Bahamian artist, Kevin Cooper – much of whose work showcases the exquisite beauty of Eleuthera. Sands also announced that a portion of tickets sales will go towards purchasing a telescope for the use of students at Windermere High.
