Eight (8) Haitian men are in custody as a result of a large drug bust by Operation Bahamas, Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) in Inagua on Friday 4th January 2013.

According to police reports, around 9:00am officers assigned to OPBAT acting on information conducted a search for dangerous drugs of a Haitian vessel by the name of
the L’assistance Express that had just arrived at Great Inagua from Haiti.

During the search officers uncovered eighty-nine (89) kilos of suspected cocaine. Eight (8) men on board the vessel were subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

The estimated street value of the drugs is 1.3 million dollars.

The suspects and the drugs have all been flown into the capital, Nassau, New Providence. Investigation continues.
