(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – History was made in Eleuthera on Saturday December 13th, 2014, when twenty eight students from across the island gathered in Savannah Sound at the Resource center to take the fist ever ACT examination being administered at a local Test Center (Center Code 871100). A second opportunity to take the test at the same location will be on April 18th, 2015.

Students from Spanish Wells, North Eleuthera, Preston H. Albury and Central Eleuthera  high schools were at the center from shortly after 7am. They were admitted into the examination room at about 8:00am and for the next several hours had a high paced battle with their mind, H2 Pencils and paper as weapons. The exam consisted of four subject area tests plus an optional 30-minute Writing Test which was done by six of the students. It included 215 multiple-choice questions and took approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete, including a short break (or just over four hours if you were taking the ACT Plus Writing).

The day was not without its hiccups as a few students, all from CEHS, had to scramble to get the required documents for entry into the examination room. One of these egaer students was left bitterly disappointed when she was not permitted to sit the examinationd due to the lack of an approved form of identification (Acceptable forms of identification: http://www.actstudent.org/faq/id.html).  She had been registered to take the exam and her actual identity was not in question, however, lacking the approved form of identification was the chink in her armor on this day.

Otherwise, this premier event led by District Superintendent of Education Mrs. Helen Simmons Johnson appeared to occur with much success – actual results pending!

The results obtained by students from The ACT are accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the US and by COllege of The Bahamas.
