(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – The Haitian Flag Day celebration in Eleuthera is an annual event that at its roots, commemorates the events of May 1803 that led to the transformation of a colonial flag, to one of a Republic and at the surface fosters the pride of the diaspora on the island, in their island’s rich culture and history. As was the case last year,  events in 2017 took place in two locations;  in Savannah Sound, Central Eleuthera on May 20th and then the next day in Blackwood, North Eleuthera.

Stage performances with music, dance and satire were highlights of this event where scenes were plentiful in red and blue, the colors of the Haitian Flag which history says was ‘stitched’ together on May 18, 1803.
