On Saturday morning, September 5th, 2015, as a result of a joint operation between Bahamas Immigration and the Royal Bahamas Police Force in Eleuthera, 13 Haitian nationals, who are believed to be in the country illegally, were transferred to the Detention Center in New Providence via the Rock Sound airport.
Chief Immigration Officer for the Eleuthera District, Mrs. Shema Darling confirmed that the group of illegal immigrants was made up of 8 males, 4 females and 1 infant. Darling credited public reports of unknown faces within central and south Eleuthera communities and stepped up efforts by both Immigration and Police for the success of the operation.
The illegal immigrants in custody were said to have been apprehended from the townships of James’ Cistern, Palmetto Point, and areas further south, including Rock Sound during a two day operation on Friday, September 4th and Saturday, September 5th, 2015.
