(Eleuthera, Bahamas) Officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Eleuthera District will be out in full force – posted at every Ministry of Education institution in The Eleutheras – on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015 for the official opening of the 2015/2016 school year, says Sgt. Joseph Oldham (Chief Traffic Officer for the Eleuthera District),
“We ask that the public remain mindful of the rules of the road, and to be especially cautious in school zones and by pedestrian crossings. Anyone found speeding or not adhering to the rules will be dealt with according to the law. All officers have been mandated to report those people not complying”, remarked Sgt. Oldham.
Sgt. Oldham further commented that the RBPF in Eleuthera also recently received a donation of a speed gun, which had been specially calibrated in New Providence, and has been already used in a number of traffic checks on island in recent months. He further said that there is a planned increase in the frequency of those traffic checks ahead.
“In the majority of our fatalities, speed is the major contributor”, added Sgt. Oldham, and continued, “The police force is in the business of saving lives. Even when we are out there enforcing the rules of the road, this is what we are doing. If people would obey the rules of the road, a lot of these mishaps would not happen.”
