(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – Police in Eleuthera have arrested, two Bahamian adult females, two Bahamian adult males and one Haitian adult male, for allegedly Aiding and Harbouring Illegal Immigrants. 

The charges stem from the landing of a Haitian Sloop in Savannah Sound that was brought to the attention of police at about 6:40pm on Thursday 20th August 2015. 

Supt. Wright along with a team of officers visited the area of Longley Newberry Park in Savannah Sound that eveniing and arrested (8) eight Illegal Immigrants, (7) Female and (1) juvenive male who were found in a white 2001 Buick Century registered to a Bahamian Female.  Also at the scene was an Adult Bahamian Female who was arrested for Aiding/ Harbouring Illegal Immigrants. Officers while on enquiries in Savannah Sound also arrested two adult Bahamian Males, an Adult Bahamian Female and a Haitian Male, for Aiding and Harbouring Illegal Immigrants.  Investigations are ongoing.

Arrest For Immigration Purposes
On Saturday 22nd August 2015 at about 1:20pm Police and Immigration Officers arrested a male and female, both Haitian Nationals, while at Governor’s Harbour after they were found to not have any documentation.

On Saturday 22nd August 2015 at about 4:20pm Police and Immigration Officers apprehended a male Haitian National after he was found to not have any documentation. 

Search Warrant Executed
At about 1:25am on the 21/8/15  Superintendent Wright and a team of Officers reported executing a search warrant on the premises of an adult male  in reference to possession of dangerous drugs and firearms with negative results attained, however, two illegal immigrants were apprehended during the search, one male and one female. Both persons were later handed over to the Department of Immigration.

Joint Operation Conducted
On Wednesday 19th August 2015 at about 2:00 am, Supt. Christopher Wright and Chief Immigration Officer Shema Darling lead a team of Police officers and Immigration Officers on an operation in the Central Eleuthera District. During the operation Police Officers conducted a number of searches throughout the Central Eleuthera District area Between Gregory Town and Savannah Sound for illegal immigrants. A total of thirteen people were arrested for Immigration purposes; all were handed over to the Department of Immigration, Eleuthera where they were processed and scheduled to be transported to the Detention Centre, New Providence on 19 August 2015 for further processing. Prior to transportation the Department of Immigration did inform that three of the people originally detained were released after presenting documentation, and the remaining 10 people were tranferred to the capital.
