Nassau, Bahamas – On Monday the 16th, Senior Government Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, the Office of the Attorney General, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Bahamas Investment Authority, the Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Local Government and the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation met with a delegation from the Republic of Haiti to discuss bilateral agreements.
The Haitian Delegation was led by His Excellency Fresner Dorcin, Secretary of State for Agricultural Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development. The other members of the Haitian delegation were His Excellency Antonio Rodrigue, Ambassador of the Republic of Haiti to The Bahamas, Mr. Alix Celestin, Director General, National Port Authority, Mr. Jean Claude Barthelemy, Director of Economic Relations and Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Max Millien, Senior Officer, Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, and Mr. Monorde Civil, Deputy Director of the Office of Standardization, Ministry of Trade and Industry.
This meeting was as a result of the Ministerial talks that took place on 27th March, 2014, in Port-au-Prince Haiti, that was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, the Honourable Frederick A Mitchell, M.P and second meeting between the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Perry G. Christie M.P. and the President of the Republic of Haiti, His Excellency Michel Martelly, within the sidelines of the Summit of the Association of Caribbean States/Mexico-CARICOM Summit in Merida, Mexico, on 29th April, 2014. At that meeting both government heads agreed that the dialogue should continue regarding matters of Technical Cooperation, Bilateral Trade and Illegal Migration.
The Sessions took into account the realities that The Bahamas and Haiti face at this time and the negotiations proved fruitful in advancing the draft texts on the above issues to be signed this summer.
The entire delegation from both countries in a face to face meeting on a number of bilateral issues of mutual interest at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday the 16th June 2014.
