In the photo above you’ll see Tom Glucksmann, organiser of the upcoming Pineappleman Triathlon in Gregory Town, slated for Saturday, June 4th, 2016 standing along the road as bicycle riders pass. Glucksmann was one of about four dozen participants in the annual Catch Jerry Chile 5 mile Fun/Run Walk organised by Miska Clarke, proprietor of JC Discount Superstores located in James Cistern and Gregory Town. In this photo, he has already completed his run, and he is cheering as one of about 40 riders from the 2nd Annual ‘Tour de Lootra‘ cycle event – held on the same morning – passed by, almost half way along their 100+ mile ride from Gene’s Bay to Bannerman Town – an evolving event, being organised by Bahamas national team cyclist, Chad Albury of Spanish Wells.  The Catch Jerry Chile event, which was the 4th Annual, each year chooses to give or use the proceeds for a charity or project to benefit the community.  During the first three years, beneficiary projects included the Eleuthera Cancer Society; year two saw the purchase of portable emergency medical equipment, which included a defibrillator; and in year three a portable ‘jaws of life’ was procured – inspired by the untimely accident which took the life of young Shayne Thompson of James’ Cistern.  This year, organizers aim to purchase two pitching machines to assist with the further development of sports in Eleuthera. More about each of these will be in the next issue of The Eleutheran.

Meanwhile, as seen below in Rock Sound, later on the beautiful Saturday, the Blue Seahorse Gift Store and Deli, held a Lionfish educational session where, members of the Island School demonstrated the safe handling and preparation for consumption of the invasive species. Patron of the store, Holly Burrows a gifted artist, sported spectacularly crafted earrings made from fins of the fish and also showed works of art hanging on the walls.
