(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – Shortly after 9am on Monday morning January 11th, 2016, a lone male driver, a resident of Hatchet Bay, traveling north along Queen’s Highway in Central Eleuthera, lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a coconut tree around a corner just south of Sky Beach, and north of Governors Harbour. A passerby motorist stopped to assist the driver in the vehicle after it came to a halt, wrapped around the coconut tree – by breaking the back glass of the vehicle so the driver could climb out.
Despite the devastated condition of the vehicle, the driver managed to climb out with an apparent broken right arm as reported by eyewitnesses. The actual extent of his injuries are unconfirmed. Shortly after he was transported to the Levy Medical clinic in Governors Harbour via HACE ambulance and seen by Dr. Mensah.
As motorists continued to pass the scene of the road incident a number of them stopped, and a small crowd gathered, marveling at how anyone inside the vehicle could have survived such an impact, calling it miraculous. The driver was referred by medical personnel to hospital in New Providence and shortly before print, plans were being finalized to have him transferred via charter.
Eerily, the accident happened in almost the exact spot of a similar crash on December 18th, 2015.
