Accident scene with the Blue Truck and “GREEN” car – burnt completely.
(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – Three people were treated at a local clinic and referred to hospital in New Providence on Monday morning, January 4th, 2016, following a head-on collision on the Eleuthera main road, just south of Governor’s Harbour.
At about 7:40am, according to police, a report was received of a two vehicle accident at the corner of Edwin’s Turtle Lake Marine Preserve. A green car (make unconfirmed), being driven by a male of Rainbow Bay, travelling south, reportedly slid across the wet road as it rounded the bend and collided head on with a blue Toyota truck, being driven by a male of North Palmetto Point, with a female passenger, travelling north.
Reportedly, the driver of the car presented as unconscious for a few moments after the collision, but regained consciousness moments later and exited the vehicle. Shortly after, according to witnesses, the car burst into flames. Both drivers and the truck passenger were taken to the Levy Medical Clinic in Governor’s Harbour, where they were seen by Dr. Mensah. The truck driver was said to have sustained injuries to his back and neck area, and the passenger had neck and shoulder injuries. The driver of the car reportedly received injuries to the neck, chest and legs. All three people involved were referred to the Princess Margaret Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged, with the truck sustaining severe damage at the front of the vehicle, while the car, which had caught fire following the impact, burned beyond recognition.
Authorities commented that no emergency fire services were currently available in the Central Eleuthera area, as 2 hours later during the morning, the car, which had been moved to the side of the road still smoldered as small flames remained visible within the decimated vehicle.
The nearest working emergency fire service vehicle was said to be in Tarpum Bay at the South Eleuthera Emergency Partners (SEEP).
