(Harbour Island, The Eleutheras) As hundreds of tourists flowed into the island during the Christmas weekend, many headed to Harbour Island and on Boxing Day evening, Saturday, December 26th, those fortunate enough to have attended, were, along with many locals, treated to the fabulous cultural spectacle of Junkanoo. Bay Street came alive with the local groups, the Warriors and the Zulu going head to head in a fierce competition of vibrantly colourful, high quality, creative costumes; rhythmic music; and dance spectacle.
Attendees described it as an excellent display of Junkanoo and the photos capture the beauty of the event. The portraits are in the gallery below and wider event display shots can be found here: MORE PICTURES.
The Outcome:
The Warriors were triumphant on the evening, taking the overall winners title, with the Zulu coming in second. Best banner category was taken by the Zulu, while other categories, including best choreography, best music, best off the shoulder, and best free dancers went to the overall winners, the Warriors.
