(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – 21 year old, Shaunae Miller, 2015 IAAF World Championships 400m Silver Medalist, paid a very special visit to the island of Eleuthera on Thursday, September 24th, 2015. The tall, statuesque Bahamian athlete stopped in at every primary school in south Eleuthera, starting with Tarpum Bay and worked her way south until she reached the Deep Creek primary school, before heading back to Rock Sound to finish up her Eleuthera school tour at the Preston H. Albury High School.
Shaunae’s message of inspiration at each school location honed in on the importance of the students having goals, believing in them and their ability to achieve them, putting in the work to accomplish them with determination and commitment, as well as staying focused on their education as a part of fulfilling their full potential in life. Students from the youngest in K4 to 12th graders in senior high embraced her message and demonstrated their admiration for the accomplished athlete by thronging her for hugs and autographs at each school.
During the Eleuthera tour, Shaunae was accompanied by her dad, Shaun Miller, Vice President of the Bahamas Athletic Association of Coaches; Romell ‘Fish’ Knowles, Secretary General of the Bahamas Olympic Committee; World Relay Female Athletes (Eleuthera), Safyha Bryan and Nijah Bastian; Coach Kennord Mackey of Preston H. Albury High School; and Clara Young with the local Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.
Although Eleuthera was Shaunae’s very first Family Island school tour since her silver medal performance in Beijing, it was not the only one during this busy week. She began in New Providence the day before, visiting a number of high schools in New Providence, including her alma mater, Saint Augustine’s College, and was scheduled to fly in to Exuma on Friday to continue her message of inspiration.
Much more on this stellar Bahamian Athlete and her visit to Eleuthera..including many more photos, will be published in The Eleutheran in October
