Wednesday, 19th March – Labour and National Insurance Minister, the Hon. D. Shane Gibson reminded members of the public of the Government’s commitment to the protection of consumers and of the avenues for recourse for substandard services or products. The Labour Minister’s remarks came while officially opening the Exhibition for Consumer Education Month organised by the Consumer Welfare Unit of the Ministry of Labour and National Insurance on Wednesday, 19th March, at the Mall at Marathon.
Minister Gibson said that it gives him great pleasure to share in the exhibition as the month of March is celebrated as ‘Consumer Education Month,’ in The Bahamas. “As we do so, we join with thousands of people around the world who recently celebrated the 15tth of March as World Consumer Rights Day under the theme, ‘Fix Our Phone Rights! Justice for mobile consumers. “I believe that this theme is most appropriate at this time, particularly with all the challenges we have been having with mobile services in particular,” Minister Gibson said.
Also in attendance were students of CH Reeves Junior High School. Also as a part of the Consumer Education Month, the Consumer Welfare Unit also held a Divine Worship Church Service at Faith United Missionary Baptist Church, and paid a courtesy call on the Governor General His Excellency, Sir Arthur Foulkes at Government House earlier in the month.
