Two Lives Lost in Eleuthera’s first traffic fatality in 2026

Two men, ages 21 and 28, lost their lives as the result of a deadly traffic collision in Central Eleuthera on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026 – in Eleuthera’s first road fatality in the new year.

The crash, which involved two vehicles, happened shortly before 7:00 a.m. on Queen’s Highway in Palmetto Point, on a stretch of road ladened with big patches and holes at that time – as it had been for much of 2025 – and filled with asphalt within two days of the date of the accident.

The busy morning traffic was blocked in both directions, for near 2 hours, as authorities processed the scene and cleared the extensive wreckage.

Police indicated that a white Ford Transit, being driven by an man, carrying two male passengers, sustained significant front-end damage. Two male occupants were airlifted to New Providence for further medical treatment, while the remaining individual was treated and discharged from the local clinic.

The second vehicle, a Nissan Bluebird, was driven by a 28-year-old man and occupied by a 21-year-old male passenger. This vehicle also sustained extensive front-end damage. Both occupants were extricated using the Jaws of Life and were pronounced deceased at the scene by a local physician.

Officer-In-Charge of the Eleuthera Division of the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF), Superintendent Franklyn Neely, confirmed that eight people died as a result of traffic accidents in Eleuthera during 2025. He emphasized the importance of slowing down, observing road signals, and taking time while driving, stressing that speed does not guarantee quicker arrival. He added that his team would continue to make their presence felt on the roads.
