WARNINGS:
Severe Weather Activity: There is a moderate to high risk for severe weather conditions this afternoon into overnight hours across the nation. The public should keep abreast of the issuance of any severe weather watches or warnings from The Bahamas Department of Meteorology. Rip Currents: There is a marginal risk of rip currents for the Atlantic waters of the island chain as well as the sheltered waters of the Southeast Bahamas. Swimmers are advised to exercise extreme caution when entering these waters. There is a slight risk of rip currents across the remainder of the island chain.
GENERAL SITUATION:
An eastward moving mid to upper level disturbance from the Gulf, will spark bouts of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon through tonight. Severe weather conditions are possible with this feature, with the greatest impact anticipated over the southern half of the country this afternoon through overnight hours.
OUTLOOK:
Possible severe weather in the Central and Southeast Bahamas is expected to continue through Saturday afternoon. Some improvement is expected by Saturday evening as the system exits the area into the Atlantic. A weak pressure pattern and a drier air mass will settle across the Bahamas for the remainder of the weekend.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS (INCLUDING GRAND BAHAMA, ABACO, BIMINI & ADJACENT WATERS):
ADVISORY: Gusty winds, higher seas and reduced visibility can be experienced in showers and thunderstorms.
WINDS: Southeast to south at 10 to 15 knot with occasional gusts during the afternoon hours.
LOCAL SEAS: 2 to 4 feet but higher along Atlantic exposures.
GULF STREAM: 1 to 2 feet.
SWELLS: Light northeasterly swells.
WEATHER: 20 to 30% chance of showers.
NORTHWEST BAHAMAS (INCLUDING NEW PROVIDENCE, ANDROS, THE BERRY ISLANDS, ELEUTHERA & ADJACENT WATERS):
ADVISORY: Gusty winds, higher seas and reduced visibility can be experienced in showers and thunderstorms.
WINDS: East to southeast at 10 to 15 knots with occasional gusts during the afternoon hours.
LOCAL SEAS: 2 to 4 feet but higher along Atlantic exposures.
SWELLS: Light northeasterly swells.
WEATHER: 20 to 40% chance of showers increasing 30 to 50% with isolated thunderstorms possible by afternoon hours.
CENTRAL BAHAMAS (INCLUDING EXUMA, CAT ISLAND, LONG ISLAND, SAN SALVADOR, RUM CAY & ADJACENT WATERS):
ADVISORY: Gusty winds, higher seas and reduced visibility can be experienced in showers and thunderstorms.
WINDS: East to southeast at 10 to 15 knots with occasional gusts during the afternoon hours.
LOCAL SEAS: 2 to 4 feet but higher along Atlantic exposures.

WEATHER: 20 to 30% chance of showers increasing 50 to 70% by afternoon hours with isolated thunderstorms.

ADVISORY: Gusty winds, higher seas and reduced visibility can be experienced in showers and thunderstorms.
WINDS: Easterly at 15 to 20 knots.
LOCAL SEAS: 2 to 4 feet but higher along Atlantic exposures.
SWELLS: Light northeasterly swells.
