Winners of the the Eleuthera Sustainability Council Cooperative Society’s (ESCCS) Essay and Video competition, on the topic, “Why Sustainability Matters and How Sustainability can be Implemented on Our Island,” were announced by the judging panel in early March.
First scheduled for December 2025, ESCCS president, Mrs. Bekera Taylor, said that it had been rescheduled to give more students an opportunity to fully participate following the reopening of school at the beginning of the new year, and it was open to all Eleuthera students ages 10 to 18.


The essay initiative has been an initiative of the ESCCS Sustainability group for the past three years in collaboration with the One Eleuthera Foundation and its Center for Training and Innovation (CTI). Winners, said Mrs. Taylor, receive trophies and certificates, as well as a prize from CTI.
Winner of the Essay competition was announced as, Tanae Bethel from North Eleuthera High School. Winner of the Video competition was 6th grader, Jus’Sky Taylor of Emma E. Cooper Primary School.
