Introduction and Celebration:
At 95 years old, Delores Neilly, born on February 22nd, 1931, stands as a cherished matriarch of The Current community. An educator for 48 years, before retiring, Mrs. Neilly served as a teacher, head mistress, then principal at the Current All Age School for many decades, touching the lives of all of the community’s children throughout her time in service.
She celebrated her 95th birthday this year in the precious company of beloved family members, friends, former students, and community members in a well-attended Service of Thanksgiving, hosted on Friday evening, February 20th, 2026, at the Current Gospel Chapel, where over 75 people gathered, including many former students, who sang for her. A family birthday dinner with 36 close relatives followed on the same weekend at Daddy Joe’s restaurant. “I was so happy. I enjoyed it so much… Friday night in the church… And all of them coming up, you know, kissing me… I had such a good time,” shared Delores, as she recalled the enjoyment of her birthday weekend a few days later.
