As The Bahamas counts down to the 53rd Anniversary of Independence on Friday, July 10th, 2026, communities throughout Eleuthera have planned a myriad of activities, events and special gatherings to celebrate our culture, heritage, faith and pride in our nation.
Beginning at the north of the island, in Spanish Wells, the Independence committee, along with the District Council and the Office of the Administrator, will get the celebration ball rolling, as they host a Flag Raising ceremony on the Administrator’s Office grounds at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, July 2nd, 2026. The following week, during the Independence holiday on Friday, July 10th – the committee will hold a Citizens Award ceremony on the Spanish Wells Public Dock, starting at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Slippery Pole competition, also at the Spanish Wells Public Dock at 11:00 a.m. For further information, members of the public can call the Administrator’s Office in Spanish Wells at 242-333-4409.
Still in the north, this time on the mainland, the North Eleuthera Independence Advisory Board, in cooperation with the Office of the Administrator and the North Eleuthera District Council, begin their slate of events on Tuesday, June 30th, with a Flag Raising ceremony at the Lower Bogue Old Homecoming Site at 10:00 a.m. On Sunday, July 5th, they host an Independence Ecumenical Service (Outstanding Citizen Awards will be presented) at the Charles Wesley Methodist Church in Lower Bogue at 4:00 p.m. And on the holiday, July 10th, 2026, a Family Day and Community Beach Bash will take place at Lower Bogue Beach, beginning at 12 noon – until.
Staying north, just across the water, in Harbour Island, the Independence Advisory Board in cooperation with the Administrator’s Office and the Harbour Island District Council, will have Independence celebrations kick off on Wednesday morning, July 1st, 2026 with a Flag Raising ceremony at the Administrator’s complex at 10:00 a.m. On Saturday, July 4th, bright and early, a Fun-Run-Walk event begins at 7:00 a.m. on Bay Street. An Ecumenical Independence service and Awards ceremony will be hosted on Monday evening, starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy (Duke Street). On Thursday, July 9th, on the eve of Independence, a Bahamian Cultural Experience event will be hosted, starting at 8:00 p.m. on Bay Street. Friday, July 10th, 2026 – A Family Fun Day with Food Giveaways, Games and Live Entertainment will be hosted on Bay Street.
In Eleuthera’s Central District, local activities start with an Ecumenical Service at the Wesley Methodist Church in Savannah Sound at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5th. Judging for a Community Pride Competition for Best Community Upkeep, Best Decorated Yard, and Best Decorated Office or Company takes place on Monday, July 6th, 2026. A Canvas and Culture Event, hosted at the Icon Sign grounds on Cupid’s Cay is planned for Wednesday, July 8th, where residents are expected to enjoy a curated Sip n’ Paint. Also hosted on the grounds of the Icon Sign in Governor’s Harbour, will be the 53rd Independence Celebration on Thursday, July 9th, begining at 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. (the Independence Service is slated for the evening on Thursday). Celebrations in the center of the island will culminate in a Cultural Fun Day in each of the townships. Families are invited to go out and support their local communities, and enjoy the spirit of togetherness, from Gregory Town to Savannah Sound.
Independence activities in South Eleuthera begin with a Flag Raising ceremony on Wednesday, July 1st at 9:30 a.m. at the Office of the Administrator in Rock Sound. On Sunday, July 5th, 2026, an Independence Church service is slated for 11:00 a.m. at the Fountain of Life Kingdom Ministries. The highlight of Independence celebrations in South Eleuthera takes place on Thursday, July 9th at the Rock Sound Homecoming Site, where a Cultural Show and Ecumenical Service will be hosted, beginning at 7:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m.
Across The Bahamas, all residents are encouraged to raise their flags and wear their Bahamian colours on July 1st and on July 3rd, 2026 – dubbed, National Flag Day and National Pride Day, respectively.
