Eleuthera Incumbents Re-Elected as PLP Seals New Mandate in The Bahamas General Election 2026

The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), led by Prime Minister Philip ‘Brave’ Davis, in a landslide result on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026, made history with a second consecutive win – not seen in Bahamian politics since 1997 – unofficially capturing 33 of the 41 total seats being contested for the House of Assembly in The Bahamas 2026 general election.

In Eleuthera, both the North Eleuthera constituency (NE), and the Central and South Eleuthera constituency (CSE), were unofficially declared for the PLP incumbent candidates – Clay G. Sweeting in CSE, and Sylvanus C. E. Petty in NE.

Voting across the island was said to have been a fairly smooth and peaceful process at the various polling stations on Tuesday.

During an impromptu victory gathering at the Longley Newberry park in Savannah Sound, approximately four hours after polls closed earlier in the evening, MP-elect for Central and South Eleuthera, Mr. Clay Sweeting, addressed a throng of supporters, expressing his deep appreciation to them, his team, and voters throughout Eleuthera for renewing the party’s mandate of continuing the progress being made.

He commented, saying, “I want to thank the people in Central and South – not just my supporters, but all those who voted for me, because some persons who voted for me were not necessarily supporters. We look forward to building on progress, increasing support and looking for persons who did not support me to see that I’m the best man for the job – and the PLP is the best party to govern.”

He noted in his address, the importance of Eleuthera voters having elected a senior minister in the cabinet, for the island – for effective representation and continued change, and also celebrated the administration’s historic achievement of winning back-to-back governments after 30 years, attributing it to the strong leadership of Prime Minister-elect, Philip ‘Brave’ Davis.
