NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Bahamas Turks Islands Conference of The Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA) in its 204th Annual Session held at Rhodes Memorial Methodist Church, New Providence, in January 2016 elected Reverend Theophilus Nathan Rolle as Bishop/President of the Conference and Superintendent of the Nassau Circuit and Ms. Esther M. Joy Sargent as Vice President of the Conference. On September 11th, at 4:00pm a service will be held for the induction of these leaders. The service will be held at the Wesley Methodist Church on Malcolm Road East.
Rev. Theophilus Nathan Rolle
Rev. Theophilus Nathan Rolle is a Bahamian native, from the community of James Cistern Eleuthera. He is the third of six (6) children born to the union of Mr. and Mrs. Lionel and Bernice Rolle.
Rev. Rolle was accepted for full-time ministry in 1991 as a candidate of the Bahamas/Turks and Caicos Island District of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas. He completed his ministerial training at the United Theological College of the West Indies, Jamaica, in 1995 with a Diploma in Ministerial Studies. During this time he represented the college as an exchange student at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur Georgia.
Rev. Rolle has since served in the Kingdom of God in Anguilla (1995-2000), and Aruba and Curacao (Netherlands Antilles), as Superintendent Minister (2000-2006).
In September 2006, he returned home to his home District Conference, where he was stationed in the Grand Bahama as Superintendent Minster for the past 10 years. During this period he also served as Chaplain and Acting School Board Chairman of St. Paul’s Methodist College.
Rev. Rolle primary duty as District President is to be a spiritual leader and to stimulate the spiritual life of the District, to lead in evangelism and be a counsel to his colleagues. The District President is ‘the overseer for the flock of Christ.’ As President Rev. Rolle will the representative of the District for all occasions local and International.
Rev. Rolle is married to the former Evona Niles, and together, they are the proud parents of two gems from God – Ebony and Theus.
Ms. Esther Joy Sargent
Ms. Esther Joy Sargent was born in city of Nassau Bahamas. She grew up with her parents, Bishop Asa Amos Sargent and his wife Lilla Mathilda Sargent and six siblings. Her father, an assistant pastor in the Church of God at that time, was employed as a book-keeper and her mother operated a retail bakery.
Ms. Sargent graduated from the Government High School in Nassau and sought further education in Canada and the U.S.A., obtaining a certificate in Credit Management and a Bachelors and Masters degree in Business Administration.
An entrepreneur since the age of five (selling toffees) she started her own secretarial service business in 1997. This business developed to become Viewpoint Management & Investments Ltd. in 2000. Opportunities presented in this business led Joy to study Real Estate. Success in these studies led her to start Prestige Realty & Investments Ltd. of which she currently serves as President/Broker.
Ms. Sargent was confirmed as a member of Grants Town Wesley Methodist Church in July 1972. She was a member of the youth group (Wesley Guild) and served as an Assistant Sunday School Teacher.
She has served as Synod/Conference Clerk, Journal Writer and General Letter Writer. At present she is a substantive member of the Conference Stationing Committee and associate member of the Christian Education, Mission & Evangelism and Resources & Development Committees. She has represented the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos Islands District Conference at numerous international seminars and conferences.
Ms. Sargent is the founding Community Lay Director for Bahamas Sonshine Emmaus Community which was established in the Bahamas in 2009.
As Vice President Ms. Sargent will be responsible for oversight of finance and property matters and assist the President in carrying out the decisions of the Conference.
Her hobbies include travelling, gardening and sewing. She is the mother of one son, Glenardo.
