Shift The Culture and the One Eleuthera Foundation are hosting this year’s first annual Starter Island: Starboard Trials.

The Starboard Trials are a series of challenges held in Eleuthera, Bahamas where Bahamian challengers will showcase their knowledge, creativity and skills as entrepreneurs who can innovate and solve problems. The Trials will consist of 5 challenges based in a specific industry.

After a trial ends, the top performers advance to the next trial and bottom 8 will enter a redemption round. In the redemption round, each of the 8 challengers will randomly select a material from the previous trial’s industry and incorporate it in a pitch to the judges. The top 4 from redemption will rejoin the main competition, while the bottom 4 will no longer be able to advance to the next trial.

20 competitors will be narrowed down to 8 by the time of the final trial and the top 4 will be selected to come on board the Beacon Won for Starter Island, a 5-day competition held throughout the Islands of The Bahamas where teams of local and international entrepreneurs travel on one ship building their products and ideas. Starter Island will take place between Nassau and Exuma, August 13th – 19th, 2016.
