(Eleuthera, Bahamas )  – According to sources: Acting on information received, Police and Immigration in Eleuthera, today formed a team which canvassed Governor’s Harbour and Palmetto Point in Central Eleuthera.  The actions of authorities, up to 5pm, resulted in the apprehension of 23 people suspected of being in the country illegally. Those detained included, 15 adult males, 6 adult females, 1 male child, and 1 female child.  Additionally, police report that sadly, the body of a deceased male washed ashore on the north side of Windermere Island in the area where a small sail boat, suspected of carrying illegal immigrants, was located on Monday night, June 1st (see report below). 

Those apprehended today were in addition to at least eight other people detained on Monday night in Central and North Eleuthera. 

 

Body Found on Beach

Sometime after 3:00pm on Tuesday 2nd June, 2015 the Police received information that the body of a male had washed ashore on the north side beach on Windemere Island. Officers responded to the scene where the body of a dark skinned male between 30 – 40 yrs old clad only in a pair of white underwear  was found in the surf approximately 15ft from the beach. The deceased was located approximately three hundred feet south  of the Haitian sloop that had come ashore on Monday 1st June, 2015. It is suspected that  he may have been one of the passengers from that vessel. 

The body of the deceased was examined by Dr. John Mensah District Medical Officer  and transported to the Morgue at Harbour Island. The deceased will be transported to  New Providence for autopsy.
