(UPDATE 2) – January 2, 2015: Police confirmed on Friday afternoon that the suspect being sought in the shooting on Current Island on December 30th has been taken into custody. The 29-year-old american male was apprehended at about 1:30pm, hiding in the bushes on Current Island. Police began their search for him on the day of the shooting.

(UPDATE) – January 1, 2015: A police SWAT team with the assistance of K-9 dogs are activiely searching bushes for a caucasian American male who is suspected as being responsible for the shooting.  The victim is said to be still in serious condition at Princess Margaret Hospital in New Providence.

 

(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – A shooting incident in Current Island, North Eleuthera, resulted in a male being airlifted to New Providence in serious condition and the suspect being sought by police. Police confirmed that they received a call at about 5:45pm on Tuesday, December 30th, 2014, that a male on the island, which has a population of less than 100 residents, was shot.

They responded to the scene and found a “rasta” male suffering from gunshot wounds.  Allegations are that while at his residence, the victim was confronted by a foreign national male who frequents Current Island, who produced a handgun and fired shots at him, resulting in the injuries. The Eleutheran also learned that the victim came to the island on Tuesday from Nassau aboard the Current Pride. Residents say the two may have had a dispute.

Police have confirmed that the gun wielding suspect is not yet in custody.
