Swimmer Chloe McCardel early Monday morning, shortly before she left on her swim. In awe next to her is Donnalee Miller, with the Eleuthera Ministry of Tourism.

Australian marathon swimmer Chloe McCardel, 29, shortly after 1:00am on Wednesday morning completed a world record 126km swim from South Eleuthera to New Providence in about 42 hours.

The swimmer who has swum the English Channel and had attempts to swim from Cuba to Florida in 2013 thwarted by Jelly Fish, set out from Lighthouse Point  on Monday morning, destined for Montague Bay in Nassau. Exhausted and bitten the swimmer however ended her swim, earlier along the coast, about 2km short of her 128km target but very much a world record, for the longest open-water unassisted swim.

Australian media accompanied the swimmer to the island and along her water journey. She was supported by a team from the Island School.
