(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – POLICE in Eleuthera are investigating a drowning incident that has a 27 – year old male visitor from Under Hill, Vermont, USA, dead on Friday 1st August 2014. According to reports, shortly before 7:50pm, the man was swimming in waters at Valentines Marina in Harbour Island when he drowned. The victim was pronounced dead by the island’s local doctor. Investigations are ongoing.

 

Man dies several hours after experiencing breathing problems  on diving trip

One week, ago a  Harbour Island man also died after a diving trip in waters off Hatchet Bay.  According to reports, the man began experiencing problems at about 1:45pm and died at about 8:15pm.

According to police:

On Saturday July 26, 2014 at about 7:00 p.m. a 54yr old male contacted Harbour Island Police Station and reported that Mr. Glen Bullard was in the area of the Harbour Island Government Dock in a semi-conscious state. He further stated that Mr. Bullard was receiving medical attention from Dr. Kapuno and Nurse Melony Saunders.    

As a result of the information received Officers proceeded to the Harbour Island Government Dock. On arrival there they met Dr. Modesto Kapuno assisted by Dr. Sargio Villeags, a Doctor visiting the Island, and other medical personnel administering medical attention to Mr. Glen Bullard. Mr. Bullard at that time appeared to be breathing, The medical team continued with their interventions. At about 8:15 p.m. Dr. Kapuno pronounced the body of Glen Bullard dead. Dr. Kapuno reported that information he received from the deceased was that he was diving for approximately three (3) hours with intervals of rest at depths of 70 to 80 feet. After his dive, he experienced severe pains to his back.                                                    

Officers also spoke with a male relative of the deceased who stated that he and his brother left Harbour Island at about 7:00 a.m. on board their 17ft Boston Whaler to fish in the area of Hatchet Bay. At about 1:45 pm Glen surfaced and began complaining about having problems breathing. As a result, he contacted medical personnel from the Harbour Island Community Clinic and informed them. He then put his brother on the boat and returned to Harbour Island at the Government Dock. On arrival at the Government Dock, medical assistance was rendered until his brother was pronounced dead by Dr. Kapuno.    The deceased was later transported to New Providence for autopsy. Investigations are ongoing.
