Police in a release on Friday October 25th described two drug seizures in Eleuthera and a total of 13 men in custody. The release read:

DEU MAKE TWO MAJOR DRUG SEIZURES, 13 SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY

Thirteen (13) men are in custody facing drug charges after they were arrested in two separate major drug seizures on Thursday 24th October 2013.  

In the first incident, around 3:30am, a team of officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit assisted by officers from the Eleuthera Division acting on intelligence went to bushes in the Gregory Town area, where they uncovered two thousand pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of 2 Million dollars. A total of five men were taken into custody.

In the second incident, around 9:15 am, a team of officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit assisted by officers from the RBPF Marine Support Unit went to the area of Finley Cay just off north Eleuthera, where they intercepted two speedboats with four male suspects on each boat. The officers conducted a search of both vessels and found over thirteen hundred pounds of suspected marijuana with a street value of 1.3 million dollars. Additionally, the officers uncovered a handgun with a quantity of ammunition. The suspects were all taken into custody.

(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – Approximately 2000 lbs of marijuana was found in Gregory Town Eleuthera on Thursday morning October 24th, 2013 valued at approximately 2 million dollars. 

Police on Thursday afternoon, revealed information about the large drug bust saying,  45 large bales of suspected marijuana were recovered, and ten people have been taken into custody.

In an interview with Superintendent Ismella Davis, Officer in Charge of the Eleuthera Division, she reported that sometime after 3am on Thursday morning, October 24th, 2013, Police received information which resulted in the launch of an operation in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Unit out of New Providence.   Officers from New Providence arrived on island and joined with the local Police Force and were able to intercept a vessel.

Superintendent Davis added, “A short while later, after searching a bushy area in Gregory Town, we were able to uncover 45 bales of suspected marijuana.  The investigations continued and we were able to take into custody seven persons initially.  As information unfolded, and officers continued the investigation, officers arrested three more persons, and we have some ten persons in custody, relative to this matter.  This matter is an open investigation, and we believe that there are more persons we need to see as the evening wears on.”

Local Police and Drug Enforcement Unit Officers out of New Providence were seen loading the confiscated drugs onto Police vehicles, at the Governor’s Harbour Police Station, for shipment into New Providence, shortly after 1pm.  The drugs were then trucked to the Governor’s Harbour Airport and taken out by aircraft.

The ten people in police custody were also slated to be transferred to the capital on Thursday afternoon, with possible arraignment on Monday, October 28th, 2013.
