THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 12:00AM EDT UNTIL 04:00AM EDT. TUESDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER 2013.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR NORTH AND CENTRAL ANDROS, NEW PROVIDENCE, BIMINI, THE BERRY ISLANDS AND SOUTH ELEUTHERA AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 12:00 AM EDT RADAR AND SATELLITE DATA INDICATED CLUSTERS OF EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS OVER NORTH AND CENTRAL ANDROS, NEW PROVIDENCE, BIMINI, THE BERRY ISLANDS AND SOUTH ELEUTHERA, AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, FLOODING IN LOW-LYING AREAS AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN.

RESIDENTS SHOULD ALSO PROTECT THEMSELVES IN FLOOD PRONE AREAS.
