A 31 year old male of Savannah Sound was killed by police in New Providence on Saturday morning sometime close to 2:00am.

Police alerted media to the shooting at about 2:29am. They said that the incident occurred at Allan Drive off Carmichael Road.

Police reports issued later on Saturday stated that officers were on patrol when they heard a barrage of gunshots emanating from the area of Allan Drive. The report further stated that when officers responded they observed a young man among a group of people assembled at a party with a handgun in his hand. They also added that the young man opened fire at the officers and an exchange of gun fire erupted resulting in the young man being fatally shot by Police.  A handgun along with a quantity of ammunition was reportedly confiscated from the deceased.

A family member in conversation with The Eleutheran shared some concern over the number of times and how, purported witnesses say that the deceased was shot by officers, however, we were not able to verify any of the information.

Police also did not give any information about the number of shots suffered by the deceased.

According to them, investigations are ongoing.
