(Upper Bogue, Eleuthera) – Minister of Local Governmant V. Alfred Gray visited the location of the devastated building this afternoon, that housed the offices of the Administrator’s office in North Eleuthera, in the small settlement of Upper Bogue. He was accompanied by MP for Central and South Eleuthera, Damian Gomez, Chief Supt. Walter Evans, local government representatives and government media representatives from New Providence.

The minister confirmed that the Government will re-build the structure at the same location in the community in the near future, stating that if it isn’t completed by the end of 2013 it will be be well on its way. 

The exact cause of the fire is not known at this time, though suspicions are that it may have been “electrical”.

 

EARLIER REPORT

12:45pm – According to authorities at about 11:10am a fire started in a back storeroom of the administrative building in upper Bogue where the telephone junction was located on Tuesday July 2, 2013.  The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Volunteers fought the fire with water from the main water line in front of the building until firefighters arrived shortly after 12 noon with the fire truck equipment out of lower bogue.  At 12:45pm crews were still fighting the blaze.

According to eyewitnesses, Administrator Johnson and admin employees were in the building at the time, however no one was injured by the blaze.

Minister of local governmant V. Alfred Gray along with fire services Chief Supt. Walter Evans are expected to arrive on scene / on island around 1:30pm with an investigative team to determine the cause of the fire and inspect the government premises.

Jennifer Ward, a resident of Upper Bogue shared the feeling of devastation by many in North Eleuthera with the loss of the building which would have housed many government records including documents such as submitted house plans.
