(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – Summer camp season has begun in Eleuthera with a wide variety of options for youngsters languishing in the freedom from schoolwork and from the confines of the classroom.
One of the largest camp organizations on the island, with four separate locations in North, Central, and South Eleuthera is the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) Camp program. According to Sergeant Mavis Knowles, Camp Coordinator at the South Eleuthera location – being held on the grounds of the Tarpum Bay Primary School, one hundred children showed up at that one location to participate in the six week long day camp, which this year runs from 9am to 1pm daily, from July 1st to August 9th. Large numbers can also be expected in the other Districts.
All smiles and a circle of fun in Tarpum Bay
Day one in South Eleuthera was planned as an all-day fun day for the excited crowd of children, who participated in entertaining activities, with group games, like musical chairs and water balloon throwing, as well as face painting, and many more.
During the rest of the first week at camp, the kids would receive a visit from Doctor Knowles, Dental Hygienist, who would give them free cleanings; jewelry making with all natural materials is also on the activity roster, as well as a day’s session with International Dance Artist – Kelvin Cooper. A community cleanup is planned for Thursday, teaching the kids to give back, with activities wrapping up on Friday at a day on the beach – and that’s just the first week.
Personnel involved at the South Eleuthera Police Camp location include, Sgt. Knowles (Camp Coordinator), Sgt. Armbrister, Sgt. Sands, Corporal Pyfrom, as well as three student advisors in training, who are also assisting with the campers.
A grand closing event is also planned for the end of the six-week camp, bringing together the participants from North, Central and South to celebrate what is hoped to be another successful and enriching year of Summer Police Camp in Eleuthera.
