Eleuthera Debate champions, Darelle Sands, Jameka Carey and Octavia Rolle of CEHS claimed the win in their Quarterfinal National Debate Round
(Nassau, Bahamas) – Eleuthera’s debate champions from Central Eleuthera High School (CEHS), made up of the powerful female trio of Darelle Sands, Jameka Carey and Octavia Rolle traveled into New Providence on Thursday, February 14th to compete in the Quarterfinals Round of the National Debate competition held on Friday morning, February 15th. They faced last year’s national 2nd place overall winners from North Andros High, as proponents of the moot, “Be it resolved that single sex schools are more effective than their co-ed counterparts.”
After debate and rebuttal rounds, the Eleuthera champions claimed the win, with 870 points, to North Andros High’s 839 points tally. Octavia Rolle of Governor’s Harbour again captured the ‘Best Speaker’ title, as she did when the team defeated Aquinas College in January 2013 during the first round of the National Debate competition.
Central Eleuthera High School in November 2012, defeated the other local high schools in the island competition at the District Education Office in Savannah Sound.
Next for the team will be the semi-finals competition in mid-March in New Providence.
