More than 130 guests showed their support for DCMS at the Starlight Ball, held at Four Points Restaurant in Rock Sound
(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Deep Creek Middle School (DCMS) hosted its annual fundraiser, The Starlight Ball, at Four Points Restaurant in Rock Sound on Saturday, February 9th, 2012. It was an overwhelming success, with more than 180 tickets were sold and more than 130 persons attending. Proceeds from the benefit support enrichment travel opportunities for students of DCMS.
The elegant reception was catered on-site by the restaurant and event attendants enjoyed dining and fellowship in the open-air venue under the stars. Eleuthera’s own stars, the Rumrunners, provided musical entertainment and shared the stage with guest DJ’s Randy C and DJ Energy from Nassau. The DJs broadcasted live on Hot 91.7 all weekend, including shout outs from the ball, and live interviews from the Deep Creek Middle School and Island School. DJ Randy C was the MC for the night and invited attendees on stage to participate in a number of entertaining events, including rake and scrape dance and best dressed competitions.
A silent auction was held which included such prizes as local Bahamian art pieces, gift baskets, vacation stays and a fishing charter trip. Raffle tickets were also sold for the opportunity to win a diverse collection of prizes. Many door prizes were also given away. “There truly was something for everyone at this event,” said Mr. Will Simmons, teacher.
The fundraising committee of the PTA recognizes that the event would not have been possible without a range of support and donations from parents, community members, winter residents and corporate sponsors. Specifically, the PTA would like to recognize the Bronze Donors: Mr. Albert Pratt, the Symonette Family & Symonette Enterprises, and Family Gaurdian. Mr. Carey of The Royal Bank is also appreciated for the company’s generous contribution at the Gold level.
The funds raised from this year’s Starlight ball will support parents with the family’s share of expenses for some incredible trips. DCMS students have the opportunity to travel for many reasons throughout their years at the school. Ten students will go to camp in the US or Canada this year. The 8th graders will do a school exchange in Boston in April. 9th graders have the opportunity to tour New England to interview for possible boarding school scholarships. And two students in the Eco-Club will be presenting the school’s student run environmental initiatives at the Green Schools Annual Conference in Palm Beach next weekend. All of these extracurricular opportunities help the students learn leadership and responsible global citizenship as they strive to become the future leaders of The Bahamas.
Applications for enrollment at Deep Creek Middle School are now available for all grades for the 2013-2014 school year. For an application or more information, go to the school’s website at www.dcmsbahamas.org.
