Anyone expecting to see the country’s two best Junior Junkanoo groups from Spanish Wells All Age (SWAA) and Harbour Island All Age (HIAA) at the 2013 “ALL ELEUTHERA” Junior Junkanoo competition this weekend is up for a let down. Both schools have indicated that they will not be participating citing problems with the costumes that they used in the Nassau nationals to win first and second place, respectively, just in December 2012.
Two High Schools that have confirmed their participation in the Saturday event are Preston Albury High School in Rock Sound and North Eleuthera High School in Lower Bogue. These two groups will join others from seven Primary Schools (James’ Cistern, Green Castle, Rock Sound, Tarpum Bay, Emma Cooper, Governor’s Harbour, North Eleuthera) and Deep Creek Middle School to grace the grounds of Governor’s Harbour for the 2013 cultural parade competition.
Central Eleuthera High School not unlike SWAA and HIAA cite the lack of storage for costumes as the main reason they are also not participating in the parade making it three of the five public high schools to have opted out of the 2013 parade.
A brief ceremony will commence the cultural show beginning at 3pm on Saturday January 26th, immediately followed by the Junior Junkanoo parade competition.
Each of the ten participating schools will perform two laps. The route this year will go between the First Caribbean junction and the Anglican Parish Hall in Governor’s Harbour.
